Which out-of-the-box distro ?

Hello !

On Firefly Ubuntu downloads page, there are 6 different versions. The 2 ones with the most recent date in the name are ROC-RK3399-PC-EXP-UBUNTU18.04-GPT-SDBOOT-20200507-1515.img.7z and ROC-RK3399-PC-UBUNTU18.04-GPT-SDBOOT-20200507-1505.img.7z

Do you know what is the difference ? The 1st has EXP in its name... I didn't find anything in the wiki...

OK, EXP just stands for "expansion board"...

We do not maintain firefly's images. ROC-RK3399-PC has been upstreamed to all of the relevant projects so they should work out of the box with the latest distros.

Oh wow... I didn't get that. I thought I had no choice and should use Firefly specific images. But I don't find any other project with out-of-the-box distros for ROC-RK3399-PC... Which are there for example ?

Sorry, but what distros you talking about, exactly? I described my experience on getting board work with Armbian here. Firefly image works, but without hardware accelerated rendering and with various issues (for example black screen after a couple minutes under load, such as YouTube playback, if board is powered by Belkin F4U093 docking station that can give at least 60W).

Besides Armbian and Firefly images - is there something else to try?

Also, could you please clarify if DP via Type-C support is also upstreamed?

@loverpi Would like to know more of these relevant projects that work out of the box.  Where can we find more info on what distros are supported and links to download?

I was able to get Armbian working after all, but there is no pre-compiled images - you will need to build one by yourself by following Armbian documentation.

There is pre-compiled images from ArmbianTV project maintained by balbes150, but personally for me it didn't work out (second paragraph).

Latest Armbian current works fine. Running it now with u-boot from Amarula github.
