GPIO keyboard command

I'm trying to get my potato to read a switch on the gpio as a keyboard key. GPIOD is installed, but I'm not really sure where to go from here. I know I need a script to monitor the chosen pin for it to go low. Anyone have a sample script? I'm planning to run this at boot, it will open a calibration menu for a program.
