Is this open source or not? Was about to purchase when someone suggested that it isn't.

    It depends on what you consider OSHW. But to date I don't believe ANY SBC is 100% FOS.

    Most are partially open source but still involve some form of licensing. Then you have the schematics available to claim open source. FOSS being ran is another part of why SBC are labeled Open Source.
