Will images for the AML-S905X (potato) work on this board?

One of the advantages as I understood of this family of boards is more generic OS compatibility, if generic arm64 images are supposed to work, will builds for the Le Potato work on the La Frite as well?

Le Potato requires that the bootloader be placed on the image while La Frite does not since the bootloader is on the board. The images are not compatible but 99% of the software is with a minor tweak. There's still a pending bug to be resolved before formal launch.

Alright, that's good to know. I already got the Debian image working that was released for the La Frite.

I've also been trying without avail to get arch arm64 generic running but it won't boot, how do you get the builtin bootloader to load something like arch?

If you take a look at the EFI/FAT32 partition on the Debian image, it has everything. /dtb/libre-computer/aml-s805x-ac/platform.dtb and /EFI/bootaa64.efi which is grub but can be replaced with the Linux kernel instead. Then you need to create an u-boot.scr file with the bootargs for the kernel if you are booting it directly.

is there a way to try the RetroPie image on the La Frite? Flashed straight o USB with Etcher but does not load on boot. Something special must be done to the Le Potato images before flashing to USB? or a specific way to boot them?

I tried the ubuntu mate version for 805x-ac and it does not boot
