where do i change the initial settings to make the desktop fit the display
imaged new Image of ubuntu onto sd and started up. on second start, the additional space on the card is recognized. all good
... except my (HDMI) screen cuts off the outside of the desktop - top/bottom/left/right. eg. menu/navigation/clock is not visible. anyone know where i find the initial settings file to make the desktop fit the screen? many thanks

work around is HDMI -> VGA adapter and the screen is displayed in its entirety. still would be nice to handle it without having to go through vga. any suggestions for a fix? thanks,
@lobman, Check your TV/monitor scaling settings. Disable any scaling and the full desktop should be shown.
I found that when I connected it to my tv, I had the resolution set to 16:9. I had to change that to no scaling. I had never had that particular problem before and 1920x1080 should still be 16:9 but I guess there is some minor magnification with this particular board.
As a bonus, changing from 16:9 to no scaling had absolutely no effect on anything else (netflix, ps4, tv). This took a few too many hours to figure out before I realized it was really my tv.
thanks all. my mini hdmi monitor does not have menu settings that allow me to adjust overscan. i need to handle it on the board. on odroid i changed the relevant settings in the boot.ini, the pi communicated with the monitor right off the bat, but where do i go on the renegade? xrandr, HDMI -set, systemd ... any suggestions greatly welcome
@lobman What resolution is that monitor? Link to the product?
sorry for delay, was travelling.
it is a Coby TF-TV1525 15-Inch 720p LCD TV

@lobman: The RK3328 has problems generating the clock timings for 1366x768. This is a known issue. We suggest getting a real 720P or 1080P display to avoid issues.
thanks. that explains it. i'll just stick with the -> vga adapter. works fine also
