SoC boot issues, only green/red lights, nothing else

Hi everyone,

Been using for a while RK3328-CC, but since yesterday I been unable to make it boot.

1. What image are you using?

- Used my own version of vanilla kernel (5.5), but also tried my previous "working" 5.0-rk3328 branch from DenisP (https://forum.loverpi.com/discussion/827/linux-5-0), and Firefly version at 4.4.
2. Where are you getting your image?

- My own image was built by myself from Linux Stable kernel (Grg Kroah-Hartman one).

- DenisP from his github, built by myself, used to work great.

- Firefly 4.4 one using the old (mk-image, mk-kernel...) and new scripts with repo (build.sh)
3. What is the file name?

Image ?
4. Are you flashing to a MicroSD card or eMMC module?

MicroSD, actually tried two different microSD with same results.

5. If you are not getting video, what tool are you using to flash the image?

I'm not getting anything, no even video signal, just red and green lights and nothing else. For flashing just the 5 partition design (idbloader, uboot, trust, bootfs, rootfs)

6. Been you doing something before?

I been working trying to make USB3 to work using Vanilla and tuning dts files, but I saw at Kernel 5.5 my external hard disk started to present random problems with hard disk (tack sound under USB2), my guess could be USB disk could taking more power than Renegade could provide at that port.

Sadly, on one of those restarts and after installing Firefly kernel + dts, the chip never got back to anything, just red+green lights, no image at HDMI.

7. Is your SoC well fit?

At least I own a case with a good thermal adapter with a fan.

Update, installed ARMbian from ROC-RK3328-CC-ubuntu18.04-LXDE_20180920.img.xz, and the green light disappeared. Investigating...

Hello,
I am having the same issue even after installing ARMbian. No HDMI output and I also cannot see anything in the serial debug. I have the ROC-RK3328-CC-v1.3-B. Just a solid green light and solid red light. 

1. What image are you using?

I have used several, below are the distributions. Each one I see the same solid green light and nothing from the HDMI.

I have been using both balena Etcher app and I used the official supported SDCard Installer from Firefly. 

6. Been you doing something before?

Not so much. Tried it out of the box and I see nothing. I have been trying to serial USB into the thing and I have used Windows and linux. In linux it mounts to /dev/ttyUSB0, but I see nothing from picocom or minicom. In putty it shows up as COM4 but I see nothing as well. To be fair I am not using the USB to UART (http://shop.t-firefly.com/goods.php?id=32) but I am using the ROCK64 serial console board (https://store.pine64.org/product/padi-serial-console/). I dont know how different this, but would be willing to sink a few more bucks to get one. 

7. Is your SoC well fit?

@maxwellmaurice Try using NetBSD's imager or Win32DiskImager. Verify and post the checksum of the extracted files you are flashing. balena etcher is known to not flash properly.

@loverpi I used Win32DiskImager with ROC-RK3328-CC-ubuntu18.04-LXDE_20180920.img. I first used 7zip to unzip ROC-RK3328-CC-ubuntu18.04-LXDE_20180920.img.xz. I then used the application and get the same thing. 

I repeated the above steps with Armbian_20.05.2_Renegade_buster_current_5.4.43.img.xz and with ROC-RK3328-CC_Debian9-Arch64_20180525.img.xz.

For the Armbian_20.05.2_Renegade_buster_current_5.4.43.img, I used the Verify Only option in Win32 Disk Imager to validate the checksum and they were both successful. 
Any other tips?

@maxwellmaurice Can you take a picture of both sides of the board? Might have to return it as defective. Where did you buy it?

Solved by getting a replacement board. Worked right out of the box without changing anything on the SD card.
